welcome to cyclediaries.com!
One late summer day, in a pub somewhere in London, three friends sat down to an important discussion. The subject was of keen concern to all three, and the conclusion of the debate would not only have an immediate impact on their lives over the next year or so but an influence on their development as people far into the future. However, too passionate and divergent were the opinions held and the ideal order of the England batting line up remained unresolved again. We did agree to cycle the length of South America through the Andes though, so that was something. Our own line-up has been subject to change, an original member of the three having to remain in Britain due to work commitments. Either that or he was concerned that the expedition map ended somewhere south of Santiago due to lack of additional beer mats. His replacement had no such scruples and has been exemplary in throwing himself into the organization of equipment and sponsors. Good job someone has, the only thing his older brother has thrown himself into is a tree while practicing on his bike – in the same London park where the team navigator managed to get hopelessly lost some years ago while out for a Sunday stroll.
Latin America has been visited on various occasions previously by two of the intrepid three. It is a place of spectacular and varying landscapes, troubled history and a fascinating present. Our motives for the trip are varied but a simple love of travel and adventure is shared by all. You could fairly say we’re doing it for ourselves, however, we’ve searched long and hard for a charity to support and we’d be delighted if you could spare some time to have a look at the Charity Page and help make a difference to the lives of people in Colombia.
Keep tabs on where we are and what we've got up to on our blog, and be sure to take a look at our photos as there are sure to be the odd good one! We may even post some short video diaries.
